Cajuns Knott Named Sun Belt Special Team Player of the Week

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team wasted no time in putting Tuesday's game with Southern out of reach.

The Cajuns (11-3) pushed across five runs in the first three innings and Andy Gros threw six solid innings as Louisiana-Lafayette never looked back in a 10-1 win over the Jaguars at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

Second baseman Justin Bourque went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the Cajuns' offense and Gros limited the Jaguars to one run on six hits while striking out eight as UL Lafayette won its sixth straight game.

The Cajuns opened things up in the first with three quick runs. Brad Saloom, Bourque and Chase Lambin each had run-scoring singles as the Cajuns posted three runs on four hits in the inning.

Lambin's single to right field extended his season-high hitting streak to eight games.

A Jason Wilson sacrifice fly to center field in the second inning plated Dallas Morris for a 4-0 Cajuns lead after two complete.

Bourque singled in Saloom in the third for a 5-0 lead. However, he wasn't finished just yet. In the fifth he would lace a triple to right center that scored Lloyd Ellis and Bryan Sneed and the Cajuns had a 7-0 lead after five.

SU (7-3) got on the board in the sixth when righfielder Theo Dumas doubled to left field scoring Antoin Gray with the Jaguars lone run of the game.

Cajuns' catcher Mike Kabel added a three-run home run in the eighth for good measure as UL Lafayette extended the lead to 10-1.

Gros (2-0) picked up his second win of the season on the mound and Jordy Templet, Kraig Schambough and Ellis combined for three innings of relief allowing no hits and striking out five Jaguar batters.

Louisiana-Lafayette returns to action this weekend with a three-game series against the University of Houston. The first game of the series is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
