LADY CAJUNS SWEEP PAST LIU March 4, 2002

?LAFAYETTE – Every time Louisiana-Lafayette head softball coach Stefni Lotief looks out on the field, it must be a comfortable feeling to see two All-Americans standing side-by-side.

?It might not be as fulfilling for the opposite dugout.

?The All-American duo of shortstop Alana Addison and third baseman Becky McMurtry combined for four hits and five RBIs in the first game, as the 19th-ranked Lady Cajuns took a pair from visiting Long Island University Monday afternoon 5-4 and 7-0 at Lady Cajun Park.

?McMurtry, celebrating a birthday, had her team-best seventh home run in the first game and added a run-scoring double to lift the Lady Cajuns (15-3) to the win. Addison, meanwhile, went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. First baseman Summar Lapeyrouse tallied two RBIs on two hits in the nightcap triumph.

?Freshman Brooke Mitchell (6-1) got the second-game win, recording 15 strikeouts to offset five walks. LIU (4-7) managed just three hits in the second game.

?The Lady Cajuns broke open the final game with three runs in the second. Lapeyrouse laced one off the center field wall to score two, and freshman catcher Joy Webre brought her home with an RBI double of her own.

?Jill Robertson added some insurance in the fifth with a two-run single, and it was more than enough for Mitchell – who stranded 11 LIU runners.

?In the first game, LIU jumped out quickly with two runs off Lady Cajun starter Michael Parrott. But the hosts responded with two runs in the first and two more in the second to take the lead.

?McMurtry tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot over the right-center field wall. The Lady Cajuns got their first lead when Addison ripped a second-inning two-run double off the wall – plating Tiffany Hebert and Joy Webre.

?The Lady Cajuns added another run in the fourth on a McMurtry single. The early offense was all Parrott (7-1) needed, as the junior struck out eight in the complete-game win.

?Louisiana-Lafayette will return to action Friday, hosting Stephen F. Austin in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
