CAJUN OFFENSE EXPLODES EARLY TO BEAT TULANE

?LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team scored six runs in the first two innings, and the squad got a solid mid-week performance from pitcher Brandt Ray as the hosts rolled to a 12-2 win over visiting Tulane Tuesday night at "Tigue" Moore Field.

?The Cajuns (17-9) exploded for 13 hits and scored in all but two innings in handing the Green Wave (13-13) their fifth straight loss. Cajun center fielder Jason Wilson continued his torrid hitting by going 3-for-4 with two runs, while shortstop Chase Lambin broke out of a recent skid with three hits.

?Louisiana-Lafayette had its leadoff hitter reach base in seven of its eight at-bats and stole a season-best nine bases.

?Ray, meanwhile, gave Louisiana-Lafayette a good outing in his first appearance since March 9. Ray (2-1) struck out seven and gave up just two runs in 6 1/3 innings to lift the Cajuns to their fifth win in six outings.

?Tulane left-hander Ray Liotta (1-4) took the loss. The freshman surrendered five hits and six runs in 1 1/3 innings. Left fielder Bryan Stelmack was the only Green Wave to record two hits. The Green Wave recorded just five hits on the night.

?Louisiana-Lafayette got to Liotta early in the first. Wilson led off with a double and was moved to third on Corey Coles' groundout. Brad Saloom plated the junior with a ground out to short, and Bryan Sneed made it 2-0 on a wind-aided home run to right field.

?The Cajuns opened it up in the second with a four-run frame keyed by Coles' RBI double and Lloyd Ellis' two-run double. Louisiana-Lafayette scored in six of its eight at-bats.

?All but one Cajun starter recorded at least one hit. The two teams will play again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tulane's Turchin Stadium.
