MEN'S BASKETBALL BATTLES NEW MEXICO STATE FOR WEST CROWN
Winner will be top seed at 2002 Sun Belt Tournament
LAFAYETTE It all comes down to one game and it's the final home game of the season.
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns and New Mexico State Aggies men's basketball teams will settle the 2001-02 Sun Belt Conference West Division championship Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:05 p.m. in the Cajundome.
On the line is the division's top seed and the opportunity to bypass East Division champion Western Kentucky until the tournament title game. The Cajuns (17-9, 10-4 SBC) would win the tiebreaker by virtue of winning both games head-to-head with the Aggies (19-9, 11-3 SBC).
Season ticket holders are encouraged to take advantage of 2nd Chance Night and come cheer on the Cajuns with family and friends. All 2001-02 season ticket holders can take any unused season tickets to the Cajundome box office and redeem them for Saturday's game.
All redeemed tickets will be issued as close to their original seat as possible. Tickets will be of equal or lesser value. Upgrades are not available.
Louisiana-Lafayette was the No. 2 seed at last season's tournament in Mobile, Ala., the first year of division play.
The Cajuns enter Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak and have the chance to finish undefeated at home in conference play. In fact, La.-Lafayette has lost only one game at home this season.
The 2002 Sun Belt Conference basketball tournament runs Feb. 28 March 5 in New Orleans at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
If the Cajuns win Saturday they will play Saturday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. against the No. 4 East-No. 5 West winner. If UL Lafayette loses, they will play Sunday, March 3 at 9 p.m. against the No. 3 East-No. 6 West winner.
For tickets to the tournament call the Louisiana-Lafayette ticket office at 482-6329 or visit the athletics complex at 201 Reinhardt Drive between the hours of 8 a.m. 4 p.m.
