CAJUN BASKETBALL FALLS TO WKU AT SBC TOURNAMENT ... March 5, 2001

MOBILE, Ala. – Western Kentucky snapped a 75-75 tie on Nashon McPherson's three-pointer with 40 seconds remaining Monday to defeat Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns 82-75 in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Mitchell Center.

Chris Marcus had a game-high 33 points and 13 rebounds, while McPherson added 16 points.

Blane Harmon led the Cajuns (16-13) with 26 points, including 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Kenneth Lawrence added 13 points for the Cajuns, including 3-of-5 three-point shooting.

After trailing 45-35 at the halftime break, Louisiana-Lafayette outscored WKU 16-3 and took a 51-48 lead on Harmon's three-pointer with 14:34 remaining.

Marcus then scored eight consecutive Hilltopper points for a 72-69 WKU lead with 4:04 to play. Harmon's old-fashioned three-point play then knotted the score at 72. McPherson hit a three-pointer with just less than two minutes to play, but Anthony Johnson connected on a pair of free throws to knot the score at 75-75 with 1:29 left.

McPherson knocked down a three-pointer from the left wing with 40 seconds to play, and Tremain Rowles intercepted a Cajun pass and raced the length of the floor for a layup to put the Hilltoppers up 80-75 with 27 seconds left. McPherson iced with game with a pair of free throws.
