CAJUN MEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES PAST MIDDLE TENNESSEE ... Feb. 17, 2001

LAFAYETTE, La. – Orlando Butler scored 17 points and Darryl Robins and Anthony Johnson poured in 13 points apiece as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team wrapped up its 2001 home season with an 85-57 thrashing of Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee on Saturday at the Cajundome.

Louisiana-Lafayette (13-12, 8-6 SBC) drilled more than 52 percent of its shots from the field while dishing out at least 20 assists for the third straight game and limited the Blue Raiders to only 38.5 percent in winning its third consecutive game.

Freddie Martinez scored 12 points, and Iiro Tenngren added 10 points for the Blue Raiders, who dropped their 12th straight game to fall to 5-19 overall and 1-13 in league play.

With New Orleans' win at South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette now stands in third place in the SBC West Division but only one game behind both the Privateers and the Jaguars.

After jumping out to a 38-26 lead at halftime, the Cajuns used a 16-6 run over a five-minute span to build a comfortable 58-36 lead with 10:33 remaining in the game. Louisiana-Lafayette would eventually close out the game on a 16-5 run for the final margin of victory.

The Cajuns also connected on 10 of their 27 three-point attempts with Butler's three treys leading the way. Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee connected on only 4-of-20 attempts from long range.

Louisiana-Lafayette also honored seven Cajun seniors – guards Jarret Evans, Billy Jones, Blane Harmon, Orlando Butler, forwards Lonnie Thomas and Reggie DeGray and center Brett Smith who played in their final game at the Cajundome.
