CAJUN MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AGAIN AT UALR ... Feb. 10, 2001

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Stan Blackmon scored 26 points, and Laverne Smith added 20 points as Arkansas-Little Rock added to Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns recent woes with an 87-68 win at ALLTEL Arena on Saturday.

UALR (16-7, 8-4 SBC) connected on 58.5 percent of its shots from the field, including a blistering 63.0 percentage in the game's final 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the Trojans limited Louisiana-Lafayette to only 33.8 percent shooting, which included a dismal 8-of-36 effort in the first half.

Brad Boyd led the Cajuns with 15 points on 3-of-6 shooting from behind the three-point line, while Antoine Landry added 12 points with four treys. Brett Smith posted 11 points for the Cajuns, with a 7-of-8 performance from the free throw line.

The Cajuns (10-12, 6-6 SBC played without the services of senior forward Lonnie Thomas, who returned home to Leesville, La., after Thursday's loss at Louisiana Tech for family reasons.

Louisiana-Lafayette dropped its fifth straight game, the longest losing streak during the four-year tenure of head coach Jessie Evans.

Damion Ninkovic came off the UALR bench to pour in 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting.

In the first half, UALR jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first 10 minutes before the Cajuns rallied and pulled to within 17-14 on Smith's old-fashioned three-point play. However, the Trojans exploded on an 11-0 run over the next five minutes and would never lead by fewer than 12 points the rest of the way.

The Cajuns wrap up their six-day home swing when they meet Texas-Pan American at the UTPA Fieldhouse in a 7:30 p.m. contest Monday.
