CAJUN BASKETBALL TAKES HOME WIN OVER NEW ORLEANS ... Jan. 3, 2001

LAFAYETTE – Kenneth Lawrence scored a career-high 13 points and led four Louisiana-Lafayette players in double digits as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns snapped a two-game losing skid with a 70-59 win over Sun Belt Conference rival New Orleans on Wednesday at the Cajundome.

Lawrence connected on 5-of-10 shots from the field with a pair of three-pointers and dished out a game-high five assists as well.

Blane Harmon and Lonnie Thomas tied for game-high honors with 14 points each, with Billy Jones chipping in 13 points.

Curtis Wilson and Ben Adams each posted 14 points to pace the Privateers. Ben Wilson chipped in with 11 points.

Louisiana-Lafayette (5-5, 2-0 SBC West) connected on 49.1 percent of its shots from the field, including a 53.6 percentage in the second half, while limiting the Privateers to only 36.8 percent from the field. UNO, which never led in the game, endured a tough night from the three-point arc, hitting only two of its 12 attempts, and saw three of its starters score a combined two points.

The Cajuns, who extend their winning streak over the Privateers to four games, jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the game's 10 minutes and were never really threatened in the rest of the game.

After Louisiana-Lafayette grabbed a 25-18 lead at the halftime break, UNO (6-7, 0-2 SBC West) pulled to within five points at 41-36 on Wilson' inside jumper at the 8:07 mark. However, the Cajuns would take off on a 13-4 run over the next two minutes to push the lead into double digits where it would stay for most of the remaining minutes.

The Cajuns will now hit the road for the first time this month when they meet league foe Western Kentucky in a 3 p.m. game Saturday at Bowling Green, Ky, which will be televised nationally on ESPN.
