CAJUNS' BASEBALL BEATS OKLAHOMA WITH ONLY FIVE HITS...Feb. 25, 2000

LAFAYETTE -- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns 25th ranked baseball team beat Big 12 powerhouse Oklahoma on Friday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field on only five hits and ten Scott Dohmann strikeouts.

Dohmann went seven and 2-3 innings, walking three out of 36 hitters and giving up 10 Sooner hits en route to his fourth-straight win taking him to a 4-0 record.

"I thought Scotty did a great job of keeping us right there and letting our hitters keep coming up to the plate," Robichaux said. "Defensivley we didn't crack and we had an errorless game, we just played better than they did tonight."

The Sooners struck first in the second inning off a double delivered by the Sooners' catcher Eliot Joyner which scored Sean Murphy from second.

The Cajuns' picked rallied in the fourth inning, started by Cajuns' left fielder Will Hawkins who hit his second double of the night off of Sooners' starter Rocky Cherry. The Cajuns continued to score three runs in that inning to boost the score to 3-1, delivered courtesy of junior shortstop Rick Haydel who plated two Cajuns with a single for his only hit of the game.

Their most productive inning came in the fifth when the Cajuns rolled to a 7-2 lead over the Sooners, when senior Danny Massiatte became one of five Cajuns to get beaned in the contest, which started the Cajuns four-run inning.

Robichaux credits some of the Cajuns' success to the fierceness of the Cajun 1, 546 fans present at tonights game.

"Larry Cochell told me before the game that he heard a lot about our crowd, that it is vicious, and he wanted it for his ball club," Robichaux said. "We appreciate the fans out here and that is what you are supposed to do at home."

The Cajuns will continue their three-game series against Oklahoma on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will wrap it up on Sunday at noon.
