Cajuns Cruise to 20th Win Over Western Kentucky...Feb. 17, 2000

LAFAYETTE -- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun used a blistering shooting performance in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and take a 72-64 win over Western Kentucky on Thursday at the Cajundome. After hitting only 32 percent in the game's first 20 minutes and falling behind 27-24 at the break, the Cajuns (20-6, 11-1 SBC) came out of the locker room on fire, missing only seven of 24 shots in the second stanza. With that performance, UL Lafayette outshot the Hilltoppers 52.2 percent to 42.9 percent. The Cajuns posted their 14th win in their last 15 outings and became the first UL Lafayette team to reach the 20-win plateau since the 1993-94 team went 22-8. Junior guard Billy Jones led the Cajuns with 10 points and 10 rebounds on the way to his first career double-double. Blane Harmon led all scorers with 17 points, thanks to a 4-of-6 night from the three-point arc, and Orlando Butler added 15 points of his own. Lonnie Thomas also posted 10 points for the Cajuns in the win. Trailing 36-35 at the 16:24 mark of the second half on Derek Robinson's driving jumper, the Cajuns went on a 10-0 run over the next 3:41 to take a 45-36 lead. UL Lafayette would never trail by less than four points the rest of the way. Butler highlighted the Cajun rally with nine straight points, including a a 19-foot three-pointer at the top of the key to cap the run. Derek Robinson led WKU with 14 points, with Nashon McPherson adding 12 poiints and Chris Marcus chipping in with 11 points and five rebounds, nearly five boards under his season average. Lee Lampley, who entered the game as the Sun Belt Conference's sixth-leading scorer at 15.1 points per game, was limited to only five points on 2-of-4 shooting.
