Joel Billeaud serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Broadcast Operations within the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletics Department. He has been at the helm of this program since May 22, 2023. In his role at Louisiana, Joel is responsible for more than 100 broadcasts per year on ESPN+ for the Ragin' Cajuns. He joined this department in November 2019, serving as the Broadcast Field Engineer. Joel came to the Ragin' Cajuns after a successful ten-year stint at KATC Communications, serving as production manager.
Prior to his start with Louisiana Athletics, Joel built a wealth of experience in the broadcasting industry, working at two out of the three local news stations for more than eleven years. At KATC, Joel coordinated the effort of all technical operations during newscasts and other live and recorded productions. He also served as the liaison between engineers and the production department. During his time at KATC, he was a two-time honoree for Employee of the Quarter.
Before joining KATC, Joel served in the United States Army from 2004-08. During his service, he was deployed to Iraq for a 15-month deployment in assistance with Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served with Bravo Company 1-8th Cavalry Division as part of an infantry team. After his deployment, he returned to Louisiana and served four more years with the Louisiana National Guard. During his time in the National Guard, Joel was presented with the 2009 Louisiana National Guard Soldier of the Year Award. He finished his contracted time with an honorable discharge and three years of proven leadership skills, which led him to his pursuit of post-secondary education at the University that gave him so much growing up.
Joel is a Lafayette native and graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree with a concentration in Mathematics on May 2015.
Joel and his wife, Carol, live in Lafayette with their son Oliver and daughter Stella.
