John Porche, who has served as director of athletic training at UL since 1982, assumed the position of Assistant Athletics Director in December 1984. He was promoted to Associate Athletics Director in 2007.
Porche, heralded as one of the South's top experts in his field of athletic training, came to UL after serving nine years as head athletic trainer at North Texas. During his stint at NT, he also served as Assistant AD for one year.
A Franklin, La. native and 1969 graduate of Northwestern State, Porche served for four years as a student and one year as assistant athletic trainer. He accepted a position with the Memphis franchise in the American Basketball Association for two years and served as athletic trainer for the Dallas Chapparrals for one year prior to working at North Texas.
In June 1996, he received one of his profession's highest honors when he was inducted into the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. Porche is currently serving as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers to the State Board of Medical Examiners.
He and his wife Beverly have three daughters, Felicia, Jennifer and Julianna and three grandchildren, Laura and William Aguillard and Anna Michelle Castle.
