Jeff Norrid
- Title:
- Offensive Line/Run Game Coordinator
Jeff Norrid is entering his third season at Louisiana working with the offensive line.
During the 2022 season, Norrid’s offensive line ranked as the Sun Belt’s second-best run blocking group by Pro Football Focus and third in sacks allowed per game. The 2022 campaign saw the emergence of AJ Gillie and Nate Thomas, who started all 13 games at left guard and left tackle, respectively.
Upon his arrival in Lafayette, Norrid wasted no time continuing Louisiana’s tradition of excellent offensive line play, coaching Max Mitchell and O’Cyrus Torrence to First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and seeing the unit named a Joe Moore Award Semifinalist for a second consecutive season.
Mitchell was one of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ most valuable players during the 2021 season, allowing just 13 pressures in 859 snaps at right tackle. As a result, he was tabbed as the highest-graded tackle in the nation per PFF and was named the PFF Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year.
Torrence was equally as impactful, starting in all of the games in which he appeared for the Cajuns, while center Shane Vallot earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors.
With the help of fellow starters Ken Marks and AJ Gillie, Norrid’s 2021 offensive line ranked 42nd nationally in sacks allowed (1.86) and 40th nationally in rushing offense (187.1) on the way to securing the 2021 Sun Belt Championship.
During the 2020 campaign at Florida Atlantic, Norrid’s offensive line allowed the Owls' rushing unit to finish fourth in Conference USA with 180.1 yards per game. The year prior, the line aided in just the fifth 2,000-yard season by a rushing unit (2,324) in program history and helped produce 32 rushing touchdowns.
Norrid also boasts experience at three SEC programs, most recently at Auburn (2015-16) where he served as an offensive analyst under Gus Malzahn and coached the program’s fullbacks.
Prior to arriving on The Plains, he spent the 2009-14 seasons at Alabama as an offensive quality control coach, assisting with practice and game-plan development and teaching the opponent’s defense on a weekly basis to both student-athletes and fellow coaches.
While at Alabama, Norrid was part of three National Championship and three SEC Championship teams.
Norrid began his coaching career at the University of Arkansas, where he was a student coach from 2003-04 before serving as a graduate assistant from 2005-08. He worked in a variety of roles with the Razorbacks, assisting with the development of the offensive line and tight ends and working as a quality control assistant with special teams.
He also had a chance to dabble in the recruiting efforts at Arkansas, playing a role in recruiting junior college prospects from the states of Arkansas, Alabama and Texas.
Norrid has two degrees from Arkansas, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2004 and his master’s degree in 2006.
