After nearly two years at the helm as Interim Director Athletics post-Hurricane Katrina, David Walker was appointed to the position on a full-time basis on July 17, 2007. Walker, a graduate of the University in 1976, has served his alma mater in various administrative positions since 1978.
In 2005, as the Interim AD, Walker coordinated the post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans Bowl which was played at UL's Cajun Field. He was also instrumental in the cultivation of Cox Communication's donation of $2 million to the Louisiana Department of Athletics, the largest single gift to the program.
Walker, a Bunkie, La. native, graduated from Berwick High School. Following a four-year enlistment in the United States Air Force, Walker enrolled at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL). Walker later obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business and his Master of Business Administration degree from the University.
He married the former Patricia Sutton of Berwick, La., in 1971 and they are the parents of one daughter, Ginny Rebecca.
