NCAA Eligibility/Continuing Eligibility Rules
A student-athlete must maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester to compete or practice in a sport. (i.e. weight lifting, meetings, etc.). A drop below 12 credit hours during a semester will result in immediate ineligibility for that semester. A word of caution: do not drop a class until you have talked with your SAAC Academic Counselor!
2. 6-HOUR RULE
To be eligible for competition each semester, the student-athlete must have successfully completed at least 6 credit hours the previous semester.
3. 18/24-HOUR RULE
First-time freshman student-athletes must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours during the regular academic year (fall, spring, summer) in order to be eligible for competition the following year. Of those 24 hours, 18 hours must be completed during the fall and spring academic terms only. Only 6 credit hours can be used during the summer session to meet this rule. Continuing (after your first year of full-time enrollment) student-athletes must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours during the fall and spring academic terms only.
