Recruiting

We are glad that you are interested in becoming a Ragin' Cajuns athlete and our coaches and boosters are interested in you!  However, the NCAA has rules and regulations to protect you during this time.

Phone Calls
You may call any of our coaches at any time; however, NCAA rules prohibit them from returning your call unless you are a senior in high school. Phone calls by Ragin’ Cajuns coaches may begin July 1 following the prospect’s junior year (there are exceptions for football and basketball). Coaches are also limited in the total number of calls they may make to any one prospect. Ragin’ Cajuns coaches can respond to e-mails from seniors and juniors in high school. Under NCAA rules our coaches may only mail responses to freshmen and sophomores.  You should not have received correspondence or phone calls from anyone other than the Ragin’ Cajuns staff or faculty from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Incentives
While you were being recruited you should not have received cash or any other items of value from anyone associated with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In addition, you should not have received promises of any cash or items of value. Your family should not have been promised or given any items of value or received job promotions or new jobs based upon your decision to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Neither you nor your family should have received "free" tickets to any events other than complimentary tickets for athletics events held on campus. If any of these has occurred, or if you are unsure of something that happened during your recruitment, you should contact the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at 337-482-5195.

Official Visits
Before you may visit campus on an expense paid visit, the visit must be given prior approval by the Compliance Office. The following items need to be submitted to the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance:

An official transcript, or a copy of an official transcript
(high school or college)

ACT or SAT test scores (for high school students)

During an official visit, you may receive a maximum of three complimentary admissions to a home athletics event to be used by you and the people accompanying you on your visit.

Other Rules
In addition to general recruiting regulations, no alumni, boosters or representatives of a college's athletics interests can be involved in your recruiting. There can be no phone calls or letters from boosters.

The restriction doesn't apply to recruiting by alumni or representatives as part of a college's regular admissions program for all prospective students, including non-athletes.

Remember, there are many NCAA rules that apply to the recruiting process.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Compliance Department at 337-482-5195.
