2000: Returned well ahead of schedule from horrific mouth
injury…Strong-armed catcher cut down 7 of 15 attempted base stealers…Had
career-best two hits, two runs and two RBIs against Eastern Illinois on
March 11…Also crushed first collegiate home run in that game…Missed
regional because of surgery to help repair injury late in the year…Made
adjustments at the plate throughout freshman season.

High School: Was four-year letter winner at Humble High School...Team won
District 22-5A championship senior year and made state playoffs two
years...First-team All-District selection and Second Team All-Greater
Houston pick in 1998 and 1999...Was voted as team’s MVP senior year and
picked as most valuable defensive player junior campaign.

Personal: Born February 4, 1981, in Houston, Texas...Parents are Dwayne and
Sue Vernon...Is only child...Majoring in elementary education...Was
teammate of pitcher Melissa Coronado during summer league ball.
