Louisiana's Jacob Earns SBC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Loreauville native had interception, key forced fumble in Cajuns' 21-14 win over UAB
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana redshirt senior defensive back Collin Jacob was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his standout performance in the Ragin' Cajuns' 21-14 victory over UAB on Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.
Jacob played a key role in a Louisiana defensive effort that limited the Blazers to 218 yards of total offense, including 74 yards on the ground – 156 below their season average coming into the game.
The Loreauville, La., native finished the game with six tackles, an interception and a forced fumble, with his biggest play coming in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.
With UAB facing a fourth-and-2 from the UL 46-yard line and 1:54 remaining, Jacob knocked the ball away from Blazers quarterback Ryder Burton, forcing a fumble and turning the ball over to Louisiana. The 16-yard loss effectively sealed the victory and helped the Ragin' Cajuns secure their fourth consecutive win over UAB.
Louisiana (2-1) returns to action on Saturday (September 26) when it closes out its non-conference schedule against American Conference member Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT, and will be available on ESPN+.
