Louisiana Places 10 On Phil Steele Preseason SBC Team

LAFAYETTE – Ten members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Football team were named to the 2025 Phil Steele Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team, the publication announced, with two players earning first-team honors and standout running back Zylan Perry earning recognition at two positions.

Defensive end Jordan Lawson and safety Tyree Skipper landed on the first team, anchoring a veteran defense expected to lead the way this fall under fourth-year head coach Michael Desormeaux.

Perry, a dynamic return man and offensive threat, was named to the second team as a running back and the fourth team as a kick returner. Wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. joined Perry on the second team, giving Louisiana two playmakers recognized among the league's top skill players.

Jax Harrington, who started 12 games at guard in 2024, was named to the third team, while Carter Milliron earned third-team honors as a long snapper.

Rounding out Louisiana's selections were Caden Jensen (tight end), Bryant Williams (offensive tackle), and Nathan Torney (punter), each earning fourth-team distinction.

Louisiana, which finished 10-4 last season and made its fifth appearance in the SBC Football Championship Game in seven years, was picked by the publication to finish in a tie for first place in the SBC West Division.

The Ragin' Cajuns officially open the 2025 season at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium on Aug. 30 against American Athletic Conference member Rice.
