Acadiana-area star returning home to continue collegiate career
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Alyson Habetz announced on Monday (June 9) the addition of infielder Kennedy Marceaux (Kaplan, La.), a transfer from the University of Alabama, to the program's roster for the 2025-26 academic year.
Â
Marceaux, the 2024 Louisiana Gatorade Softball Player of the Year and three-time first team all-state selection, becomes a Ragin' Cajun after competing for Alabama as a freshman during the 2025 season. She has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Cajun Nation is no doubt thrilled to welcome one of our own back home! We're beyond excited to have Kennedy (Marceaux) return as a Ragin' Cajun," Habetz said. "She is an outstanding young lady who excels both on the field and in the classroom, brings superior athleticism to the diamond and will be an offensive threat in the lineup.
Â
"As a utility infielder with catching experience, Kennedy brings lots of versatility on defense," Habetz added. "She is also a proven hitter with success at the highest level. Her blue-collar work ethic and competitive drive to excel will be a perfect fit into our Ragin' Cajuns Softball family.Â
Â
"We are so proud to have Kennedy and her wonderful family with "US". We know the entire town of Kaplan, Louisiana, is bursting with pride."
Â
The nearby Kaplan, Louisiana product appeared in 27 games, including 10 starts, as a collegiate freshman with Alabama this past spring.
Â
Marceaux batted .310 over 48 plate appearances for the Crimson Tide, with nearly half her 13 hits going for extra bases (two doubles, two home runs). She slugged .500 and posted nine RBI.
Â
A highly decorated high school athlete at Kaplan High School, Marceaux was the No. 8 ranked player in the 2024 recruiting class by Extra Innings Softball.
Â
In addition to Gatorade Player of the Year honors – the first in school and Vermilion Parish history – she was a PGF All-American, LSWA MVP, LHSAA Division III Non-Select Most Outstanding Player and four-time Vermilion Parish MVP.
Â
Marceaux hit .629 with 20 doubles, 20 homers and 65 RBI in leading Kaplan to a state championship in her senior season. She accumulated 83 home runs throughout her high school softball career.
