Louisiana Wraps Up Spring Football With Annual Vermilion and White Game

Vermilion claims 21-16 win; Louisiana to open 2025 season August 30 against Rice
LAFAYETTE – Walker Howard threw for a touchdown and rushed for one as the Louisiana Vermilion team earned a 21-16 win over the Louisiana White team on Saturday in the annual Spring Game at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.

Bill Davis added a rushing touchdown in the second half for the Vermilion team as Louisiana wrapped up its 15 practices, which began in late March. Walker, who is vying with Daniel Beale and Lunch Winfield for the starting quarterback job, gave the Vermilion a 7-3 lead in the first half when he connected with Shelton Sampson Jr. on a red zone scoring pass.

Steven Blanco rushed for a first-half touchdown for the White team while Sam Altmann connected with KeDarius Wade on a TD pass late in the second half. The White led, 3-0, on Tony Sterner's 34-yard field goal on the game's opening drive.

Louisiana, which appeared the Sun Belt Conference Football Championship game for the fifth time in seven years, will officially kick off its 2025 season at home on Saturday, August 30 against Rice in the newly refurbished stadium.
