The Cajuns travel to San Marcos to face Texas State in their final road series of the year
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Playing its final non-conference contest of the season, Louisiana fell to No. 2 Texas A&M, 11-2, on Tuesday at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas.
The Ragin' Cajuns threatened in the top of the first. Maddie Hayden led off the game with a single to centerfield and advanced on a groundball. Louisiana had two cracks at getting her in but a strikeout and a pop out ended the threat.
A&M responded with three in their half of the inning. Two one-out walks put two on before an RBI single scored the first one. With two out, Dayzja Williams appeared to have made a terrific diving catch to hold the Aggies to a run, but the ball popped out of her mitt as she hit the ground, bringing in two more despite the effort.
Louisiana got a spark in the third after Mallory Wheeler escaped a jam in the second inning. Savannah White led off the inning with a solo home run off the foul pole to make it 3-1. The Aggie offense went right back to work, answering with a pair of homers as part of a three-run third.
Emily Smith opened the fourth with a single before being run for by McKayla Ferguson. With her at second and two out, Erin Ardoin blooped a double just between the shortstop and leftfielder for an RBI, making it 6-2. That's as close as it'd get as the Aggies plated five in the bottom of the inning to take the game 11-2.
The Ragin' Cajuns remain in Texas to face Texas State in their final Sun Belt Conference road series beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
