Kyle grew up a proud Lafayette High Mighty Lion, while Amy was a spirited Port Barre Red Devil. From a young age, attending Ragin' Cajuns sporting events was a cherished part of Kyle's life, igniting a passion that would carry through to his adulthood.
Their paths crossed at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL), during a momentous time when the university was celebrating its transition from USL to UL. Kyle, a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and Amy, a Phi Mu Sorority sister and part of the Student Orientation Staff, forged lifelong friendships and made lasting memories during their college years.
Amy, a trailblazing first-generation college student, worked diligently through her studies. She graduated from UL's College of Liberal Arts with a major in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and later earned a Master of Science from Southeastern Louisiana University. Over the past 20+ years, she has built a successful career as a speech therapist and founded Let's Talk, L.L.C., specializing in early-intervention speech and occupational therapy.
Kyle pursued his education at the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration at UL, earning a B.S. in Business Administration. He went on to obtain his law degree (J.D.) from LSU's Paul M. Hebert Law Center. For the past 20 years, Kyle has practiced law with a focus on commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate matters. He currently serves as the Office Head of the Lafayette office of Jones Walker LLP and co-leads the firm's Commercial Transactions Team.
The Bacons are deeply embedded in the Lafayette community, dedicating their time and resources to numerous civic, philanthropic, social, and religious organizations. Their contributions to the University are many, with Amy mentoring UL students through job shadowing and hiring UL graduates, and Kyle serving as President of the UL Alumni Association and a member of the Executive Advisory Council for the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration.
Supporting the Ragin' Cajuns at athletic events has always been a cornerstone of their family life. From infancy, Amy and Kyle's three children have donned Vermilion & White, cheering on the Ragin' Cajuns at every opportunity. The couple takes immense pride in their eldest child, now a Ragin' Cajun himself, continuing the family tradition into its fourth generation on Kyle's side. Maybe it's in the blood!
Two UL Athletics moments stand out as the most exhilarating for the Bacons. The first was the unforgettable victory over Texas A&M in 1996. Though they had not yet met, both Amy and Kyle were present in the stadium as freshmen. Kyle vividly recalls storming the field with his best friend from the old hill in the south end zone and watching pieces of the goalposts paraded down McKinley Street in the backs of pickup trucks. The second thrilling moment was witnessing Brett Baer kick a 50-yard field goal from a suite in the Superdome, clinching the University's first bowl game win in their lifetime.
Despite the new challenges facing athletic programs, Amy and Kyle are confident that UL's program will remain nationally competitive, bringing pride and unity to the region and attracting future students. They believe that the current leadership, including Dr. Maggard and President Savoie, is committed to securing a bright future for the program.
The Bacons recognize the critical role a strong collegiate athletic program plays in the vibrancy of the University and the region. They also understand the financial challenges involved in maintaining such a program and encourage everyone in the community and the University family to support Louisiana's athletic program in any way they can. "Our Town, Our Team! Geaux Cajuns!"
