Shreveport native fires 68-68-67 to claim 13th annual event

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Louisiana's Burke Alford capped off an impressive week on the golf course as he claimed the 13th annual Magnolia Amateur on Wednesday at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
 
Alford, a Shreveport native who recently completed his third season with the Ragin' Cajuns Golf program, fired a four-under-par 67 in the final round to finish at 10-under-203 for the 54-hole event. The former Loyola Prep standout finished one stroke ahead of incoming Alabama freshman Michael Crocker in the 156-player field.
 
After falling to 1-over-par in the final round with a bogey at No. 7, Alford recorded birdies on his next two holes to make the turn at 1-under before sinking three birdies on the back nine for a 3-under-33.
 
Alford, who posted a 74.14 scoring average for the Ragin' Cajuns in 36 rounds of play in 2023-24, opened the event on Monday with a 3-under-68 before following with a bogey-free round of 3-under-68 on Tuesday. Alford recorded 12 birdies during the three-day event with a pair of bogeys.
