Pitcher Tyra Clary Joining Louisiana Softball for 2025 Season

Adds a veteran aura to the Ragin’ Cajuns pitching staff
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Alyson Habetz announced on Friday (July 26) the addition of pitcher Tyra Clary (Reno, Nevada) to the program's roster for the 2025 season.
Clary, a veteran pitcher with 80-plus appearances and 240-plus innings pitched, becomes a Ragin' Cajun after competing for Nevada from 2022-24. She has one season of eligibility remaining.
"Tyra (Clary) will be a great addition to our Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff," Habetz said. "She brings a wealth of experience and grit to the circle.
"On her visit, Tyra immediately fell in love with the genuine hospitality of the Cajun culture," Habetz added. "Her talent and resiliency will make her a force in the circle, and her leadership on and off the field will enhance our program in every way."
A relief specialist while with Nevada, Clary has increased her innings pitched each year rising to 97.0 IP in 2024. She is coming off her top two seasons as a collegiate pitcher, highlighted by a combined 16 wins and 126 strikeouts over 56 appearances (11 starts) from 2023-24.
Clary limited foes to a sub-.240 average her final two seasons with the Wolf Pack, capped off by a personal-best .218 opposing average in 2024. She yielded just 72 walks over a cumulative 174.1 IP during the timeframe and yielded less than 20 extra base hits both seasons.
She emerged as one of the Mountain West's top pitchers through her three-year run at Nevada, finishing 16-11 with a 2.17 ERA and six saves over the last two seasons while leading the MWC in ERA in 2023 (1.81) and 2024 (2.45).
Clary was part of a Nevada pitching staff in 2024 that led the program to capturing 40 wins. She was the leader in appearances (30), claimed nine wins and three saves and led the staff in opposing average (.218). Clary limited foes to 34 earned runs and 78 hits over a career-best 97.0 innings.
Clary settled into the reliever role as the primary arm out of the bullpen in 2023. She made 26 appearances, with three starts in the circle, and recorded three saves while holding foes to 72 hits, 30 runs and 32 walks over 77.1 innings pitched.
A Reno, Nevada area native, Clary began her career at San Diego in 2021 prior to transferring to Nevada. She recently earned an additional year of eligibility via a waiver to the NCAA.
A MaxPreps High School All-American and three-time Pitcher of the Year honoree, Clary prepped at Spanish Springs (Nev.) High School. She was a three-time All-State selection and an All-State Academic team honoree (2017-19) and a two-time All-High Desert League selection.
Clary played travel softball with Universal Fastpitch, West Coast Smoke and LTG Lions Gold Henderson. Her squad finished in the Top 10 at 2019 PGF 18U Gold Nationals.
The 2025 season marks the first under Habetz's guidance. A celebrated Ragin' Cajuns student-athlete and renowned softball coach, she was named the fifth head coach in Louisiana Softball's storied history on June 25, 2024.
A native of nearby Crowley, Louisiana, Habetz ascends to the head coach ranks in her hometown area of the Acadiana region. A basketball and softball player for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1990-95, she returns to where her impactful contributions to women's athletics began.
