Third Inning Rally Sparks Louisiana in Finishing Sweep of App State

Timely bunt and three straight hits end a scoreless stalemate
BOONE, N.C. – The No. 25-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team completed a three-game sweep of the Sun Belt Conference series with App State on Saturday, March 30 claiming an 8-0 win at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium in Boone, North Carolina.
Sam Roe (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and Brooke Ellestad (2-for-4, 3 RBI) combined to generate six runs, both accounting for three RBI.
Lexie Delbrey (2.0 IP, 2 H) and Sam Landry (5.0 IP, 1 H, 6 K) combined for the three-hit shutout, Landry taking over in the third and holding the Mountaineers hitless until a two-out single in the seventh.
Louisiana (24-13, 9-0 SBC) broke open a scoreless duel between Delbrey and App State's Sejal Neas with a two-out hitting spree in the third, after the inning was kept alive by a bunt single from Mihyia Davis. Following Davis' bunt, Roe double and Alexa Langeliers and Ellestad followed with RBI singles to open a 3-0 lead.
Landry prevented a potential answer back by the Mountaineers (15-16, 3-6 SBC) as she notched three consecutive strikeouts after a leadoff walk and error on a sac bunt attempt placed two on with no outs.
From there it was a two-run single by Roe highlighting a three-run fifth, Ellestad plating two runs on her single in the seventh and Landry neutralizing the Mountaineers offense the rest of the way to put the finishing touches on UL's third straight series sweep to start SBC play.
The game three production increased Ellestad's series-leading RBI total to 10, a figure accomplished on a 7-for-12 showing (.583) at the plate. Langeliers added a pair to her series RBI total as she finished with six.
Landry picked up her second win of the series to move to 6-0 in SBC play this season and 25-1 overall in her collegiate career. She ended the stay in Boone with 6-2/3 scoreless innings pitched in a relief role.
UL posted a three-game sweep in Sun Belt play for the third straight weekend this season and claimed the fifth straight series sweep dating back to the 2023 season.
The Cajuns increased their all-time series lead over App State to 18-2 which includes a 10-1 mark in Boone.
With Saturday's result, Louisiana continues its best start in Sun Belt Conference play since the 2019 team went undefeated (25-0).
