Conway still holds the NCAA record in the indoor and outdoor high jump

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - Legendary Louisiana track and field athlete Hollis Conway was inducted into the third class of the UTSFCCCA Collegiate Hall of Fame the organization announced on Friday.

Conway won a silver medal at the Seoul Olympics, setting a then-collegiate record of 7-8.75 in the high jump. In 1989, Conway had a legendary season. As a senior, he broke the American record for the indoor high jump at 7-9.25 to claim the indoor championship. He'd do on to win the outdoor championship behind a jump of 7-10, a then-American record. To this day no college athlete has bested either of those marks in indoor or outdoor.

The entire class of 14 will be enshrined on Sunday, June 2, at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon.

The induction ceremony will be open to the public and will be held three days prior to the start of the 2024 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

The Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame was established in 2022 to honor the best of the best in collegiate track & field and cross country. The hall of fame recognizes the achievements of athletes who have left a lasting mark on the sport during their time in college.

Eligibility for induction this year was limited to men who had completed their collegiate eligibility prior to 2000 and women prior to 2010.
