Second inning home run starts the buildup as Louisiana downs Louisiana Tech
Valdez's three-run launch to left center in the second inning erased an early lead LA Tech captured in the first inning and was the start of eight unanswered runs Louisiana (6-5) scored to take control of the contest.
The Cajuns continued to add to the lead in the third inning, a two-run single down the left field line from Samantha Graeter followed by defensive miscues from the Bulldogs (6-1) that led to an additional pair of runs increased the Cajuns lead to 7-1.
Maddie Hayden and Alexa Langeliers doubled back-to-back with two outs in the fourth, teaming up for another UL tally that made it 8-1.
LA Tech broke the scoring run in the fifth inning with a two-run home run from Claire Raley. The Cajuns answered quickly getting a leadoff triple from Lauren Allred followed by a Sam Roe double in the bottom half.
Chloe Riassetto scattered five hits over 4-2/3 innings pitched and collected six strikeouts before giving way to Sam Ryan and Lexie Delbrey who combined to hold the Bulldogs scoreless the final 2-1/3 innings.
After LA Tech plated the early run on a two-out RBI single, Riassetto pitched three consecutive scoreless innings while the Cajuns offense stormed back.
Louisiana generated six extra base hits out of 10 total hits recorded in the contest. Graeter, Hayden, Langeliers and Roe combined for the four doubles, Allred tripled and Valdez had the home run.
Valdez (1-for-2, HR, 3 RBI) finished as the top run producer and Graeter (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI) turned in the other multiple-RBI performance. Hayden and Mihyia Davis, the top two in the batting order, both finished 2-for-4 at the plate combining to reach base four times and scoring a combined three runs.
Tuesday's win was Louisiana's 31st consecutive win over LA Tech dating back to the 1998 season.
