Ragin’ Cajuns in Second After First Round of Argent Financial Classic

Alford and Marler are tied for 17th at 1-under
CHOUDRANT, La. – Louisiana golf opened the season with a 1-under 287 and are in second place after the first round of play at Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Golf Club.
Leading the way for the Ragin' Cajuns were Burke Alford and Jake Marler, who each shot a 1-under 71 and are tied for 17th.
Alford was one-over after the first 15 holes of the day but closed out the round strong with a par and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9. Marler was even on the back nine and after carding a bogey on No. 1, he recored birdies on Nos. 2 and 6 before closing out the round with three-consecutive pars.
Eli Ortego is tied for 25th at even-par. Dylan Keating shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for 33rd as Malan Potgieter is tied for 53rd at 3-over. Competing as an individual, Matthew Lotz is tied for 91st at 9-over.
Central Arkansas paces the field at 9-under as Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss are tied for third at even-par. Houston rounds out the top five at 1-over.
Louisiana returns to the course Monday at 11:50 a.m. and are paired with Central Arkansas and Louisiana Tech.
