Louisiana Wraps Up Regular-Season Action at Grand Bear Match Play

SAUCIER, Miss. – Jake Marler and Malan Potgieter each picked up a victory in their respective matches and halved the other as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team dropped a pair of contests on Tuesday in the Grand Bear Match Play at Grand Bear Golf Club.

Louisiana, making its final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference Championships later this month, opened the day dropping a close contest to South Alabama, 3.5-2.5, before falling to New Orleans in the afternoon, 4-2.

Marler and Eli Ortego earned wins against South Alabama with Marler defeating Hugo Thyr, 5 & 4, with Ortego defeating Jacob LeCroy, 7 & 5. Potgieter would earn a half-point for the Ragin' Cajuns when he split with USA's Jordan Plunkett.

Potgieter earned Louisiana's victory in the consolation match against New Orleans after defeating Henry Augenstein, 1 up.

Marler and New Orleans' Mason Roberts halved their match at No. 5 while Charlie Flynn halved his match at No. 3 against Ryan Fulton.

Louisiana will compete in the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Championships, scheduled for April 23-26 at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss. The winner of the event will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
