Ortego In 12th Place After 54 Holes at South Beach International Amateur

Junior remains seven strokes off lead heading into final round
MIAMI – Louisiana's Eli Ortego carded a 1-over-par 72 to fall two spots on the leaderboard, but remained in contention after the third round of the 2023 South Beach International Amateur on Thursday at the Miami Beach Golf Club.

The final round of the 72-hole event is scheduled for Friday. Ortego, who is tied for 12th overall in the field, will tee off at 9:20 a.m. CT. Official results can be accessed at SouthBeachInternationalAmateur.com.

Ortego, who finished the day seven strokes off the lead at 3-under-209, birdied the No. 7 hole on the front nine of the par-71, 6,813-yard course and made the turn at 1-over-37. The junior posted a score of even-par 37 on the back nine after posting birdies at No. 10, 12 and 16.

The Lafayette native, one of 88 players who made the cut in the 204-player field, remained seven strokes behind second-day leader Michael La Sasso of Ole Miss (10-under-202) with 15-year-old phenom Miles Russell – who shot a 10-under-60 in Wednesday's second round – moving into a tie for the lead after finishing at even-par 71 in the third.
