Fields Garners Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 Honor

Fields had a career performance while leading Louisiana to its sixth-consecutive bowl berth
FORT WORTH, Texas – Louisiana football's Chandler Fields was named one of the nation's top eight quarterbacks in week 13 by the Davey O'Brien Award, it was announced Monday.
The Metairie, Louisiana, native had a career performance against ULM to close out the regular season as he set the school record for single game completion percentage at 90-percent after completing 18-of-20 passes, including his last 15.
Fields accounted for 246 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns and added 38 rushing yards and a touchdown as he led the Ragin' Cajuns to a 52-31 victory to secure the program's sixth-consecutive bowl game, a school record.
Since take over the starting role three weeks ago, Fields ranks fifth nationally in completion percentage (73.2), tied for 15th in passing touchdowns (7) and 16th in passer rating (163.2) over that span.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week, selected from the Great 8 list, will be announced Tuesday at 11 a.m. (CT).
The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O'Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
