Louisiana Splits Pair on Home Opening Day, Bennett Reaches Milestone Marks

Ragin' Cajuns took in first regular season matches in newly renovated E.K. Long Gym
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team split a pair of four-set matches and Kelsey Bennett surpassed the 1,000-mark in career kills and digs on Friday, September 2 at Earl K. Long Gym during the opening day of the 2022 Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.
Louisiana powered its way past North Dakota State in the tournament opener, posting a 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12) victory by peppering the Bison with 62 kills on a .352 hitting percentage. Bennett led the charge with a season-high 16 kills and collected 19 digs to surpass the milestone mark.
The Ragin' Cajuns never trailed in building a 2-0 match lead over NDSU, then after the Bison extended the contest a 13-4 run in the fourth set expanded the lead to 20-9 and Louisiana easily closed out the match afterwards.
In the nightcap, the Ragin' Cajuns were unable to overcome their miscues as the squad committed 30 attack errors in falling 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 17-25) to UTRGV. The misfortune negated Louisiana's 51-49 advantage in kills.
Bennett was the team's leader in kills and digs once again, totaling an impressive 19 kills and 22 digs. The offensive production allowed the senior outsider hitter to become the fourth Ragin' Cajun in the rally scoring era to reach 1,000 kills, joining Hali Wisnoskie, Stacey Reilly and Chanelle Gardner.
