Softball Incoming Freshman Mihyia Davis Honored by Texas Girls Coaches Association

Recipient of the 2021-22 Class 1A-2A-3A-4A Softball Athlete of the Year award
LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball incoming freshman outfielder Mihyia Davis was chosen by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) as its winner of the 2021-22 Class 1A-2A-3A-4A Softball Athlete of the Year.
Davis, who completed her prep career at Lovelady (Texas) High School, signed an NLI to join the Ragin' Cajuns back in November 2021.
In earning one of the TGCA's top honors , Davis posted an impressive .659 average during the spring 2022 season with Lovelady HS.
Davis helped lead the Lions' softball squad to the Class 2A championship game and was selected to the Class 2A All-Tournament Team.
During the 2021-22 school year she also received recognition as an All-State player in both volleyball and basketball. In addition, she finished third in Class 2A in the 100m dash.
Davis' stellar senior campaign followed up an equally impressive junior season in spring 2021 at Smithville (Texas) High School in which she batted .561 and generated 25 extra base hits.
Louisiana's Class of 2022 signees, set to arrive on campus this August, is highlighted by Davis and Kylei Griffin (Tyler, Texas/Chapel Hill HS) who are both Top 15-rated prospects by Extra Inning Softball. The group also includes Chloe Riassetto (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood HS), Cecilia Vasquez (New Waverly, Texas/New Waverly HS), Lauren Allred (Texarkana, Texas/Texas HS) and Kyleigh Pitzer (Mt. Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central HS).
ABOUT LOUISIANA
In his fifth season at the helm of Louisiana Softball, Gerry Glasco molded a lineup that featured at most two upperclassmen and as many as five freshmen into championship and NCAA Tournament team. He guided Louisiana to third consecutive Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship and the program's 23rd consecutive 40-win season, culminating in extending the storied program's streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (now 23 straight) and advancement to Championship Sunday of an NCAA Regional (14th straight appearance).
The Ragin' Cajuns placed a conference-high nine players on the All-Sun Belt team, recorded a program-record .351 season batting average and generated the most home runs in Glasco's tenure (82).
