15th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns pile up 20-plus runs and hits in the two-game set at Youngsville Sports Complex
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-1) offense cranked out 20-plus runs and hits on the day, totaling exactly 11 runs and 14 hits in both contests.
The 11-6 win over Portland State and the 11-3 (6 inn.) triumph over Lipscomb advanced Louisiana's winning streak to four games in advance of a rematch with No. 2 Alabama on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. that rounds out play in the Mardi Gras Mambo at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Freshman Maddie Hayden was the headliner in the PSU contest as she finished 3-for-3 with four RBI, doubling and tripling twice in powering the Ragin' Cajuns to an 11-1 lead over the Vikings by the fifth inning.
Fellow freshman Sam Landry improved her debut season record to 5-0 as she started limiting Portland State (7-6) to a single run and two hits over the first three innings before re-entering in the fifth inning and closing out the game with shutout frames in the sixth and seventh inning after the Vikings rallied within five runs. Landry struck out 11 batters for the second straight outing in Youngsville.
Louisiana stormed out of the gate against Lipscomb (4-8) beginning with a two-out RBI double from Laney Credeur in the first inning. Later it was Melissa Mayeux and Stormy Kotzelnick, who each finished with two-hit efforts, doubling in back-to-back at bats in the third inning to spark a three-run sequence that stretched the lead to 7-1.
Karly Heath started in the circle and held the Bison in check for 4-1/3 innings, yielding just three runs and four hits.
Vanessa Foreman took Louisiana to the finish line tossing 1-2/3 innings of shutout softball and Alexa Langeliers put the finishing touches on the win with her two-run home run in the sixth inning that brought the margin to the run-rule figure.
