Soon-to-be Ragin' Cajun has the opportunity to compete in front of national audience
Ragin' Cajuns fans have an opportunity to watch Landry participate in the game. The contest is set to air live on ESPNU beginning at 2 p.m. (CDT).
Landry, a right-handed pitcher who was rated the No. 4 recruit nationally by Extra Innings Softball and a member of Louisiana's No. 1 nationally ranked recruiting class for 2021, is a member of the Team East squad taking the field.
"We are thrilled that Sam (Landry) was chosen," Louisiana Softball head coach Gerry Glasco said. "This game has a great history of showcasing the most talented softball players in the nation against each other, and to have an individual of Sam's talent representing our program is just a tremendous honor for our program."
Selection to the PGF All-American game is a rigorous, six-step process, per the event's website. Nominations flow in from coaches nationwide and are eventually shrunk to three pitchers, three catchers, 12 position players and two alternates per team. The selection process involves a National Selection Committee comprised of knowledgeable softball people from across the country. OnDeck Softball, Flo Softball, and USA Today chair the process.
"This game highlights what a tremendously talented pitcher Sam is and is further evidence of the respect that people in the softball community have for the travel ball career that she has accomplished," Glasco remarked. "Our staff looks forward to seeing her wear the Ragin' Cajuns uniform in the upcoming season."
Landry's final season at Barbers Hill HS was highlighted by a Texas Class 5A state title set up when she struck out 12 batters and threw a one-hit complete game shutout in the semifinal round. She closed her senior campaign with a 17-1 mark and 0.40 ERA, the third consecutive season with a sub-1.00 ERA, and struck out 252 batters over 121 innings pitched.Â
The PGF All-American game concludes a busy summer for Landry who has been with her travel team (Houston Hotshots Premier-Dumezich) participating in tournaments including this week's PGF 18-U national tournament.
Landry will be arriving in Louisiana with the remainder of Extra Inning Softball's No. 1-ranked recruiting class this August for the start of the fall 2021 semester.Â
The recruiting class also includes: Jacquelyn and Jessica Adams (Bryan, Texas/Bryan HS), Laney Credeur (Old Mines, Mo./Kingston K-14 School), Kramer Eschete (Brenham, Texas/Brenham HS), Kayla Falterman (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS), Samantha Graeter (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge HS), Maddie Hayden (West Monroe, La./West Monroe HS), Elia Hebel (Albany, Texas/Albany HS), Alexa Langeliers (Keller, Texas/Keller HS), Tyler Oubre (Destrehan, La./Destrehan HS) and McKenzie Wittenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Riverdale HS).
