National award honors college football's most impactful community service leaders
LAFAYETTE – Quarterback Levi Lewis has once again been recognized for his hard work off the field by being named a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, the awards Board of Directors announced on Thursday morning.
This is the second community service watch list Lewis has been selected for after he was nominated to the 2021 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.
Off the field, Lewis has served the Lafayette community in a wide variety of ways, including participating in hurricane disaster relief efforts and the Adopt-A-Family Holiday Gift Program. During the initiative, Lewis helped deliver gifts to in-need families during the holiday season.
In addition to his acts of service, the Baton Rouge native had a stellar season for the Ragin' Cajuns in 2020 throwing for 2,274 yards, the 26th most nationally, and 19 touchdowns, the 20th most in the country.
Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from the University of Florida, Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented in February annually in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The trophy exists to honor college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society, and inspire greater service in the world.
Louisiana Football opens the 2021 season and the fourth year of the Billy Napier era on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Texas. Kickoff in Austin is slated for 3:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
In total, six Ragin' Cajuns games, four of which will be played at Cajun Field, have been selected for national broadcasts during the 2021 season. To view the team's complete schedule, click here.
