Johnny Lumpkin Earns Spot on Mackey Award Watch List

LAFAYETTE – Redshirt junior Johnny Lumpkin has been named to the 2021 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, The Friends of John Mackey announced on Friday.

Lumpkin is one of four representatives from the Sun Belt Conference to earn recognition on this year's list.

The Atlanta native started in nine games for the Ragin' Cajuns a season ago, catching six passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. He hauled in two passes for 17 yards and recorded his first-career score in Louisiana's 70-20 win over in-state rival ULM on Nov. 28.
The Mackey Award is given to the nation's most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by the vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The award has been presented annually since 2000.
Louisiana Football opens the 2021 season and the fourth year of the Billy Napier era on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Texas. Kickoff in Austin is slated for 3:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
In total, six Ragin' Cajuns games, four of which will be played at Cajun Field, have been selected for national broadcasts during the 2021 season. To view the team's complete schedule, click here.
