Position group full of potential entering the 2020 season
LAFAYETTE – After being spread thin during the 2019 season, the tight end room should be back at full strength with the help of Johnny Lumpkin returning from injury and a healthy number of athletes returning to help Louisiana's offense this season.
Lumpkin, who played in 13 games as a sophomore in 2018, is primed to have a big season following Nick Ralston's departure. The Atlanta native caught six passes for 67 yards during that season.
Neal Johnson, Hunter Bergeron, Pearse Migl all received significant playing time in 2019 and are all returning for the Ragin' Cajuns in 2020. Johnson had a strong rookie campaign, hauling in 11 passes for 97 yards and two scores, while Migl and Bergeron were used as blocking tight ends and appeared in all 14 games a year ago.
Newcomers Christian Sabatini and Joe Lombardi, Jr., could be in the running to play during their rookie seasons. Ragin' Cajuns fans could also see Damani Burrell and newcomer Dravyn Guilbeau on the gridiron this year.
Louisiana Football opens the 2020 campaign on Saturday, September 5, when it welcomes in-state foe McNeese State to Cajun Field.
Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020 season occur due to the coronavirus, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate plans to fans and season ticket holders regarding accommodations for pre-purchased tickets.
More information can be obtained by calling the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at the Cajundome, (337) 265-2170. For information on parking passes, contact RCAF by phone at (337) 851-2903.
