Louisiana Tops Athlon Sports’ Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams With Seventeen Selections

Ragin’ Cajuns honored with the most picks in the Sun Belt West Division
LAFAYETTE – With a corps group of players returning for the 2020 football season, Louisiana Football earned 17 selections on the Athlon Sports All-Sun Belt Preseason Team, the national publication announced.
The 17 total choices are the most of any team in the Sun Belt West Division and is tied with Appalachian State for the most overall in the conference.
Headlining the Ragin' Cajuns' selections were first-team honorees Elijah Mitchell, Max Mitchell, Joe Dillon, Rhys Byrns and Eric Garror.
Mitchell became the sixth player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark with 1,147 yards in 2019 and for 16 touchdowns, with Mitchell, who started in all 14 games in 2019, helping the offense break school records for rushing touchdowns (42) and total offense (6,918).
Dillon was stellar in 2019, leading the team with 8.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles-for-loss before earning Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. Byrns also earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors after setting the program record for punt average in a single season (44.2), while Garror was a stellar punt returner, returning 25 punts for 161 yards and ranking 30th in the FBS for punt yards per game (6.7).
In total, the Ragin' Cajuns had eight players on defense, seven players on offense and two special teamers featured on the preseason team.
