Louisiana Athletics has teamed up with RoadRunnerApp.com to offer a new series on RaginCajuns.com in which student-athletes share details on how they've adjusted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and offer insight into their personal lives.
In this Q&A feature article, you will "Get to Kneaux" softball's Raina O'Neal. Since officially stepping onto the playing field in the 2019 season, Raina has patrolled center field for the Ragin' Cajuns. During her little league days, she had a chance to participate on softball's field of dreams - where she is hoping to guide Louisiana - in Oklahoma City. One of the team's leading home run hitters, Raina has the opportunity to compete for Louisiana for two more seasons beginning in 2021.
What was your daily routine during the COVID-19 quarantine as the spring semester wrapped up?
RO: I would wake up and eat breakfast, then attend my classes via Zoom. After class, it was usually a workout in my backyard. Depending on the day, I would either just spend the rest of the day with my family watching shows or catching up on assignments.
What was Coach Glasco's message to your team for this unprecedented time?
RO: Coach Glasco's message to us was to stay safe and that if we need anything to reach out to him or any of the other coaches. Also, he reiterated the importance of staying up-to-date with our school work.
How were you and your teammates able to stay together, while in remote locations, during this challenging time period?
RO: My teammates and I have stuck together during this time by checking in on each other frequently.
Take us back to when you decided to come to the University and become a Ragin' Cajun. What about the school helped you make that decision?
RO: What helped me make the decision to become a Ragin' Cajun was the community and fan base. Simply put, they create a great atmosphere unrivaled by any other place. I could also tell they take a tremendous amount of pride in being associated with the University. It felt like a close knit family that I wanted to be a part of.
What are your plans after your academic and athletic career at Louisiana is done?
RO: After my academic and athletic career at Louisiana is done I plan on going to PA school.
What is your earliest sports memory?
RO: My earliest sports memory was during little league when I got to play at the same complex where the Women's College World Series is held.
Growing up, your sports hero was who? And why?
RO: Growing up my sports hero was Bo Jackson because he was a great outfielder and he dominated two sports.
An important question: what is your favorite food?
RO: Chicken Alfredo.
