Cameron Solomon Named a William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

Award will select up to 14 finalists in November
LAFAYETTE – Safety Cameron Solomon has been named one of 199 semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced on Thursday morning.

Celebrating its 31st year, the award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

Solomon, a senior majoring in general studies with a concentration in behavioral science, was a 2018-19 Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll member and currently holds a 3.212 GPA. He has also been active in the community, helping with the Boys and Girls Club and Feeding Children Everywhere, among others.

On the field, the Ashdown, Arkansas, native has played in 27 games in his career and has been credited with 51 total tackles in his three years at Louisiana. In two appearances in 2020, including a start at Georgia State on Sept. 19, he has recorded four tackles.

Named in honor of the late William V. Campbell, the former chairman of Intuit, former player and head coach at Columbia University and the 2004 recipient of the NFF's Gold Medal, The William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda has become the most prestigious and desirable "academic" award in college football.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates must be: a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility; have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.

Louisiana returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when it travels to Boone, N.C., to face off with Appalachian State. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
