Johnny Lumpkin Named to Mackey Award Preseason Watch List

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Football's Johnny Lumpkin became the third Ragin' Cajun named to a preseason watch list after he was one of 60 tight ends from around the country named to the 2019 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. The award is given annually to the collegiate football's most outstanding tight end.

For the second-straight season, Louisiana has had a tight end recognized by the Friends of John Mackey Organization following Chase Rogers' selection to the preseason watch list prior to the 2018 campaign.

Lumpkin appeared in 13 games in 2018, making seven starts. In those games, he hauled in six passes for 67 yards, including a career-best, 27-yard grab at Troy on Nov. 3.

The junior tight end joins running backs Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas to be named to a preseason list after the pair of rushers was named to the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday.
