Mississippi State transfer is third newcomer to roster
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's golf coach Theo Sliman announced on Tuesday the addition of Mississippi State transfer Hunter Hammett to the 2019-20 roster.
Â
Hammett, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Ragin' Cajuns and joins freshmen newcomers Matt Weber (Lafayette, La.) and Jose Dibildox (Saltillo, Mexico) to the 2019-20 roster.
Â
"We are extremely excited to have Hunter join our program this coming fall," Sliman said. "Hunter had a very accomplished junior resume and will be joining us as a seasoned competitor that will add competiveness and depth to our already talented team.
Â
"Most importantly, Hunter is the epitome of what we look for in a student-athlete here at the University of Louisiana; he is a great student, a talented golfer with a very strong work ethic that we greatly look forward to having on campus."
Â
Hammett played in five events in two seasons for a deep Mississippi State squad, recording a career 74.0 average through 15 rounds of play. Hammett played in three events during the 2018-19 season, averaging 73.89 per round and posting a 54-hole low score of 220 at the season-opening Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Â
As a freshman, Hammett played in two events and finished as the Bulldogs' top individual at the 2018 Old Waverly Collegiate Championship with a 16th-place finish.
Â
Hammett won three MHSAA Class 2A state titles as an eighth-grader, freshman and sophomore and finished as the 2017 Class 6A state runner-up. He reached the Top 100 in the AJGA Rolex Rankings as a senior and recorded a pair of top-10 finishes at the Mississippi State Open (2016, 2018) and Mississippi State Amateur (2015, 2017).
