Shortstop, who has played for the Brazilian national team, set collegiate hitting streak record in 2019
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Gerry Glasco announced on Friday the signing of Sao Paulo, Brazil native Rebeca Laudino, adding to the program's recruiting class for the 2021 season.
Laudino, a shortstop for the Brazilian national team with three years of international experience, presently attends Florida Southwestern State College in Fort Myers, Fla., where she'll compete as a sophomore in spring 2020, then join Louisiana for the 2021 season.
"Rebeca is an elite athlete and we're excited to add her to our program," Glasco said. "She has tremendous speed, the ability to get on base with the short game, as well as drive the ball through the gap.
"She has a strong desire to play the game at the highest levels," Glasco added. "We look forward to her work habit impacting our program even more, just as Melissa Mayeux has."
In her collegiate debut season with FSW, Laudino set a new collegiate softball record – for all levels –with a 49-game hitting streak.
The final numbers of her rookie season included a school-record .527 average, 98 total hits, 80 runs scored and 35 RBI, over 186 at bats. She powered her way to a .694 slugging percentage via nine doubles, five triples and four home runs. Her 43 stolen bases led the team and ranks eighth among FSW career records.
Laudino joins the Ragin' Cajuns 2021 recruiting class which also includes Mia Cantu (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins HS), Delaney Enlow (Versailles, Ky.,/Woodford County HS), Addie Lightner (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South HS), Hannah Nalley (Marion, Ill./Marion HS), Sophie Piskos (Paris, Tenn./The Baylor School), Kyleigh Sand (Chino, Calif./Norco HS) and Taylor Snow (Columbia, La./LaSalle HS), all who signed in November.
