Games begin Saturday morning as @RaginCajunsSB faces in-state foe McNeese

LAFAYETTE – Two more opportunities for fans of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team to get an early glimpse of the program's 2020 squad are coming up this weekend as fall season exhibition play continues at Yvette Giouard Field at Lamson Park.

Louisiana meets I-10 neighbor McNeese on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m., then concludes the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 6 facing Lake Land (Ill.) College in an 11 a.m. game.

Both contests are scheduled to be 10 innings in length.

THE DETAILS
  • Admission is free and open to the public.
  • Louisiana Athletics Department's clear bag policy will be implemented. For more information on the clear bag policy, visit www.RaginCajuns.com/clearbag.
  • Concessions, which include soft drinks and light snacks, will be available for purchase.

Those in attendance on Saturday will be treated to a postgame concert performed by local musician Dustin Sonnier.

The Ragin' Cajuns, now two weeks into the fall practice session, are coming off an 8-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana last Friday in the exhibition season opener. Against SLU, both Summer Ellyson and Megan Kleist pitched three shutout innings while Julie Rawls led the offense with a home run and three RBI.

The weekend set marks the final two exhibition games scheduled at Lamson Park this fall. Louisiana returns McNeese's visit when the squad travels to Lake Charles for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Louisiana enters its third season under Glasco's guidance in 2020, seeking to build upon one of the program's most successful seasons ever. The 2019 squad swept the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships, boasted a Top 10 national ranking, earned the program's 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and recorded the first 50-win campaign since 2012.

The return of All-American and Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Summer Ellyson, Sun Belt Player of the Year Alissa Dalton and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Sarah Hudek, plus the addition of Oregon transfers Megan Kleist and Mia Camuso and Missouri transfers Callie Martin and Geana Torres, has excitement for a memorable season running extremely high.
