SOLID WEEKEND AT FSU: During Louisiana's opening weekend at the FSU Invitational the Ragin' Cajuns notched its first win over a Power Five program with a 4-2 win over Nebraska on Jan. 12. Louisiana wrapped up the weekend with a dominating 4-0 win over New Orleans to finish with two straight wins.
During the weekend freshmen Jan Galka and Marko Vujic each got two wins in singles, the first being each freshmen's first collegiate dual match wins. Galka clinched Louisiana's win over New Orleans with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 and junior Jamie Fraser, who got two singles wins over the weekend as well, clinched Louisiana's big win over Nebraska.
WHAT THE BRAVES BRING: Sunday's doubleheader will be the first matches of the 2019 season for Alcorn State, who finished the 2018 season 6-14, falling in the semifinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships last season. The braves return four starters from the 2018 squad, including sophomore Stojan Stojanovski, who finished 9-7 and was named to the SWAC All-Conference Team.
This is the third-straight season that Louisiana and Alcorn State have matched up on the court and Louisiana is 13-0 in the last 13 meetings. Louisiana and Alcorn State will meet again on Feb. 15, when the two matchup in the first round of the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational hosted at Cajun Courts.
WHAT THE TIGERS BRING: Jackson State enters the match having dropped its first two matches of the season in a doubleheader at Auburn on Jan. 11. The Tigers fell 4-0 in the first and 7-0 in the second match to leave Auburn, Ala., without winning a match.
This is will be the seventh-straight season, going back to the 2013 season, that Louisiana and Jackson State have met on the courts and Louisiana has won the past nine matches. Unlike Alcorn State, this will be the only time that Louisiana and Jackson State will meet this season.
