@RaginCajunsTRK Picked Fifth, Eighth In SBC Cross Country Poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team was picked to finish fifth overall in men's competition and eighth in women's as the Sun Belt Conference released its preseason poll on Wednesday in advance of the 2018 season.

Louisiana, ranked No. 14 in the USTFCCCA South Central Region poll, received 56 points in a vote by the league's head coaches and was picked to finish behind preseason favorite UTA (95 points), Appalachian State (90), South Alabama (75) and Texas State (63).

The Ragin' Cajuns tallied 62 points in the women's 12-team field and was picked ahead of Little Rock, Georgia Southern, Troy and ULM. Texas State was selected as the preseason favorite in the women's field with Appalachian State, South Alabama, Arkansas State and Georgia State rounding out the top five.

South Alabama will host the 2018 Sun Belt Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships in Mobile, Ala., on Oct. 27. The championship will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Louisiana opens its season on Friday when it competes at the McNeese Opener at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex in Lake Charles. The women's 3,000-meter race will start at 6 p.m., followed by the men's 4K race at 6:30. The Ragin' Cajuns will be joined in the six-team meet by host McNeese, along with in-state programs LSU, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern and Northwestern State.
