LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Football furthered its preparations for the 2018 season with its final scrimmage on Saturday, as the Ragin' Cajuns turn their focus towards Grambling and the Saturday, Sept. 1, season opener.

ONE STEP CLOSER: Each passing day means the Ragin' Cajuns are one step closer to kicking off against Grambling, and Saturday's scrimmage was a big page turned for Louisiana and its first-year head coach, Billy Napier. With rotations on both sides of the ball beginning to take form, Coach Napier and his staff used the scrimmage to see what Louisiana has perfected, and what aspects of its game needs to be fined tuned before Sept. 1.

BIG PLAYS EVERYWHERE: On both offense and defense, Louisiana made big plays throughout the scrimmage. Sophomore running back Trey Ragas broke through the line of scrimmage to explode for a big run in the early going, while freshman defensive back Eric Garror made big plays throughout the scrimmage.

DEFENSE MAKES PLAYS: The Louisiana defense seemed to get better and better with each play of the scrimmage, especially the play from the linebackers. The unit was led by sophomore linebacker Lorenzo McCaskill's consistent play.  While sophomore linebacker Chaiziere Malbrue and junior linebacker Jacques Boudreaux each were strong from start to finish.

Up front, Louisiana was solid all night, led by junior defensive end Bennie Higgins and senior defensive tackle LaDarrius Kidd's great production throughout the scrimmage. Higgins and Kidd both proved to be a defensive force on the line for the Cajuns. Senior defensive end Garrald McDowell added to the Ragin' Cajuns' defensive impact with an impressive showing in his own right.

13 DAYS TO GO: Louisiana opens the 2018 regular season on Saturday, Sept. 1, when the Ragin' Cajuns host Grambling at Cajun Field for the 17th Annual Herbert Heymann Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.  It's the first of six Saturday home games at Cajun Field throughout the season, with Coastal Carolina coming to Lafayette on Sept. 22 for the second home game during the month of September.

TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE: Single game tickets for Louisiana's home opener against Grambling go on sale on Monday, Aug. 20 starting at 10 a.m. and season tickets are available for purchase by either heading to ragincajuns.com/tickets or by calling the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at the Cajundome, (337) 265-2357, or by visiting the office in person.  Leading up to the home opener the Louisiana Ticket Office will have extended hours being open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday until Louisiana kicks off on Sept. 1 so fans have plenty of time to get their tickets and be at Cajun Field when the Cajuns kick-off against Grambling.
