@RaginCajunsFB Hits Stride In Second Week Of Training Camp

LAFAYETTE – With almost two weeks of training camp in the books, Louisiana Football held its second practice since Saturday's scrimmage on Monday, as the Ragin' Cajuns keep their eyes towards the beginning of the 2018 season.

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: Despite tired legs and banged up bodies, as is to be expected midway through a grueling training camp, Louisiana kept its energy and tempo up throughout practice. A sign of the program being implemented by head coach Billy Napier, the Cajuns are working on bringing work ethic and resolve into the 2018 season. The sounds of the coaching staff and student-athletes yelling to keep intensity up, combined with the sounds of pads smacking, carried from one end of the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility to the other for the entire practice. And the student-athletes responded as they worked to answer the call.

FRESHMEN IN THE HOUSE: A special treat was presented to Louisiana incoming freshmen as the university's incoming class was provided access to not only practice, but also a tour of Louisiana's facilities by the Ragin' Cajuns coaching staff. Afterwards, they were allowed to take to Cajun Field and get a taste of what the action will be like during fall Saturdays.

COACH NAPIER SPEAKS: On Monday, Coach Napier met with the media to go over Saturday's scrimmage and the positives of seeing the team take real, game-like repetitions.

Opening Statement:
"I was pleased with the scrimmage on Saturday, by both the team's effort and energy throughout. We faded a bit at the end of the scrimmage, which shows that we still need to work on our urgency and intensity throughout, but we showed a lot of physical play and toughness during the scrimmage. The focus is to learn, and although we did make some mistakes, it was technical mistakes and those are things that we can control going forward. During the next week, our team will learn from those mistakes and improve heading into our next scrimmage. Both sides of the ball were competitive, and I think that the first units on both offense and defense had some success. There was also a lot of reps for our young players, and they took advantage of that. It was an opportunity for the younger players to learn and get a taste of what things will be like when we head into games during the fall."

On Cole Prudhomme:
"He's done a great job of quarterbacking the offensive line room, and he really is a great leader. He has a grasp of our system and had a great summer. He has put himself in position to be the starting center. We do have good depth at that position with some guys getting a good amount of reps during the spring, with Cole's injury, and that has carried over into the fall."

On Things to Improve on From the Scrimmage:
"Our players can focus in on the things that we need to improve on because we do not have to play this week. There are certain areas on our team that we need to get resolved. We plan on making some wholesale changes on special teams, to get some players in position to make improvement and accumulate reps. In general, we need to focus on what is happening right now and that is one day at a time, one meeting at a time, one walkthrough at a time and one rep at a time. As we head into our second scrimmage this weekend, we have a lot of work to get done before we are ready to play."

THREE WEEKS AND COUNTING: Louisiana opens the 2018 regular season on Saturday, Sept. 1, when the Ragin' Cajuns host Grambling at Cajun Field for the 17th Annual Herbert Heymann Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

It's the first of six Saturday home games at Cajun Field throughout the season, with Coastal Carolina coming to Lafayette on Sept. 22 for the second home game during the month of September.
